What Are Botox and Dysport?

Botox and Dysport are popular, FDA-approved injectables that help smooth out those pesky expression lines—like frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead wrinkles. They work by relaxing the muscles that cause these wrinkles, so your skin looks smoother and more refreshed without looking frozen or fake.

How Do Botox and Dysport Work?

When you smile, frown, or squint, tiny muscles in your face contract, and over time, these movements cause lines and wrinkles. Botox and Dysport gently block the signals from your nerves to those muscles, so they relax and can’t create those creases. You’ll start noticing smoother skin in just a few days, and results typically last around 3 to 4 months.

  • Both Botox and Dysport are excellent options for smoothing dynamic wrinkles caused by facial movement. The best choice often comes down to your individual goals, treatment area, and how your body responds.

    Here’s a quick breakdown:

    • Botox is a great all-around option with precise, targeted results. It’s often preferred for smaller or more specific areas like between the brows (the “11s”) or around the eyes.

    • Dysport spreads slightly more once injected, making it a great option for larger areas like the forehead. Some patients also find that it kicks in a little faster.

Ultimately, the best way to decide is during a consultation—we’ll assess your facial anatomy, movement patterns, and desired outcome to recommend the right product for you.

  • Results typically last 3 to 4 months, depending on the area treated, your metabolism, and how expressive your face is. Some patients metabolize product faster and may need touch-ups a bit sooner.

  • Most people start seeing results from Dysport in 2–3 days and Botox in 3–5 days, with full results in about 10-14 days.

  • Not at all—when done by a skilled provider, results are subtle and natural. You’ll still look like yourself, just smoother and more refreshed.

  • The treatment involves a few quick injections and is generally well tolerated. Most people describe it as a small pinch. Numbing isn’t usually necessary, but we can use a topical anesthetic if you’re nervous.

  • Minimal to none! You might see a little redness or swelling at the injection site, but it usually goes away within an hour or two. We recommend avoiding exercise, lying down, or rubbing the area for at least 4–6 hours.

  • For the best results, plan your treatment about 2 weeks before your event. This allows time for the product to fully take effect—usually 7 to 10 days—and for any mild redness or swelling to subside.

If you’re short on time, Dysport tends to show results a bit faster (sometimes within 2–3 days), but it’s still ideal to give yourself at least a week.

And don’t worry—if it’s your first time or you want a subtle refresh, we’ll tailor your treatment so you look naturally radiant, not overdone.
